The
"New" Perio Disease -- Inflammatory and Risky
SPONSORED BY DENTSPLY PROFESSIONAL
In the past,
periodontitis was thought to only affect the oral cavity. However,
research has confirmed that there
is a perio - systemic link within the body. It is now a known fact that
periodontitis can affect the entire body. As a result, periodontitis is treated as
both an infection and a disease of inflammation. Advancements
in technology are leading to better risk, susceptibility and genetic tests
in an effort to identify people who are most prone. Dr. Low will discuss
various factors correlated with periodontitis and newer treatment
modalities being utilized to minimize the far reaching effects of this
disease. Attend this lecture and leave knowing ways to develop successful
outcomes.
Course
Objectives - upon completion of this course, attendees will have a better
understanding of how to:
- Utilize risk assessment to determine susceptibility.
- Incorporate the paradigm: periodontal medicine into
the practice.
- Consider genetics, diet and stress as variables in
controlling disease.
- Treat periodontitis as a major chronic inflammatory
systemic disease.

Incorporating
" Quality " Perio into Comprehensive Restorative Dentistry
SPONSORED BY DENTSPLY PROFESSIONAL
Dental
treatment would be more straightforward if there was only one treatment for a
specific condition. However,
every patient in a dental practice presents with their own needs, wants
and desires along with indications and contraindications to various treatment
modalities. When you combine this with new technology and advancements in
dentistry, the dental practitioner is continually challenged in periodontal
care with customizing treatment for the restorative patient.
Course
Objectives - upon completion of this course, attendees will have a better
understanding of:
- Determining patient resistance/susceptibility
patterns for predictable outcomes.
- The role of laser therapy in periodontics including
crown lengthening.
- Enhancing esthetic results by manipulating gingivae.
- Creating true success by positive case acceptance.
- Rationale for establishing long term maintenance
goals.
- Providing a "systems" approach to
assessing prognosis for restorative abutments.
- When to extract with resulting implant therapy.

Perio/Restorative Access: Flaps and Lasers
(Hands-On Workshop)
SPONSORED BY DENTSPLY PROFESSIONAL
With an aging
population, patients presenting with root caries more frequently and
an ever increasing emphasis
on esthetics, how would the restorative dentist be able to totally
satisfy these patients? Attend this
workshop and gain valuable insight to help meet the results desired by
patients. Learn techniques to allow subgingival margin placement and
satisfy desired esthetic results. Several treatment modalities will
be covered, thereby allowing the restorative dentist to
determine which one would yield
the most optimal results in specific situations.
Course
Objectives - upon completion of this course, attendees will have a better
understanding of:
- Surgical techniques for restorative access
including flap manipulation and suturing modalities.
- Indications for mucogingival augmentation including attached
gingivae and ridge anatomy.
- Post-operative evaluation protocols to assess wound
healing and complications.
- Laser utilization including wavelengths and
associated techniques.
